Our Veterinary Staff
Dr. David G. Williams
I am proud to have been owner of Avondale Veterinary Hospital since 1990. I bought the hospital from Dr. George Sanders when he retired. Dr. Sanders started the hospital in 1958. I am a 1985 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. I did my undergraduate work at Coker College in South Carolina. I also spent a year as a graduate student at Emory University studying genetics. I grew up in the New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia. I much prefer living in Atlanta.
I live in the Candler Park neighborhood of Atlanta with Katie Wood. Our house was built in 1916 and is in constant need of attention. We live two blocks from Little 5 Points.
When I am not at the hospital I am likely to be riding one of my bicycles. I try to ride about 100 miles a week. I don't always make it, but I try very hard. I have been riding bicycles since before veterinary school. In 1983 I took a cross country trip from San Francisco to Seattle and back to Athens, GA.
I still tour by bicycle. In the last few years I have been to Washington State, Arizona, Nova Scotia and Colorado. My dream trip is to travel across Wales to explore the land of my ancestors.
My other hobby is model railroading. I have collected N-Scale trains since I was a teenager. I currently belong to a club that displays our layout at model train shows in the Atlanta area. I like to think I learned to be a surgeon by working on model trains as a teenager.
I am also in the process of restoring a 1955 Willys Wagon. This is a Jeep and probably the ancestor of all AUVs. Some day in the distant future you may actually see it in the 4th of July parade.
My favorite part of veterinary practice is caring for puppies and kittens. I love to watch them grow up. I do find orthopedic surgery challenging and rewarding.
Dr. Diedre Grinenko
Dr. Grinenko graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. She has lived in the Atlanta area for 12 years. She joined the staff of Avondale Veterinary Hospital in 2001.
In her spare time she enjoys gardening, yoga, jogging and playing Frisbee with her pit bull, Lucy.
Dr. Carolyn Silk
Dr. Silk is a graduate of Agnes Scott College and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been a practitioner in Decatur since 1986 and is pleased to have joined the Avondale Veterinary Hospital team.
She is a member of the Atlanta Flute Ensemble, a twenty member flute choir that performs in many venues around metro Atlanta. Other interests include gardening at the Oakhurst Community Garden Project, reading and crocheting.
Dr. Carol A. Tobias
Dr. Tobias is a 1998 University of Georgia graduate. She has been here at Avondale Veterinary Hospital for two years. Being a Decatur resident, she feels very close ties to the community.
While in veterinary school, Dr. Tobias developed a strong interest in exotic animal medicine. She did several rotations and outside externships with aquatic animals. The highlight was a summer at Sea World of Orlando.
Dr. Tobias enjoys medicine and focusing on geriatric pets. She continues to expand her learning with exotic medicine.
She enjoys her two dogs, two cats and parrot. She shares her home with her husband Jim and two wonderful boys, Nathan and Owen.
